Former CSU Bakersfield Guard Corey Stephenson has committed to FIU Men’s Basketball. He announced his commitment via Instagram on Sunday evening after spending the last two seasons with the Roadrunners. This is the first known player to commit to the Panthers through the transfer portal.
In his two seasons with Bakersfield, he averaged 9.1 points per game, 4.4 rebounds, 0.7 assists, and shot 43.6% from the field and 36.2% from beyond the arc.
Stephenson broke out last season, starting in 30 of 32 games, leading the team in rebounds and finishing second in steals. The CSU Bakersfield guard averaged 11.4 PPG, 5.7 REB, and 1.1 AST. He also shot 43.6% from the field and 36.2% from beyond the arc.
Conveniently, FIU ranked last in three-point percentage and eighth in field goal percentage this past season. Another aspect of Stephenson’s game that stands out is his free-throw percentage of 80.5%. He will help an FIU team that shot only 70% from the line, which is seventh in Conference USA.
