MIAMI, FL – On Monday, Conference USA announced that FIU infielder Brylan West was named player of the week on the position player side. He is the first FIU position player to win the award since the 2020 season when Jose Garcia won it.
West, a JUCO transfer joined the Panthers and was called the second most polished hitter on the by FIU head coach Rich Witten, just behind senior Ryne Guida.
Through his first three games as a Panther, West went 10-12 with nine RBIs and two home runs. But in the Saturday doubleheader, West went 4-4 with a home run in game one and 5-5 with another home run in game two. West was legitimately perfect on Saturday.
West joined the Panthers and throughout most of the individual work sessions, he spent most of his time playing first base and when their full squad workouts began, he was playing third base and to make way for another outfielder.
West went to third base and Division Two transfer Jeff Liquori shifted to first, making way for a revolving door of outfielders.
The Panthers make their first road trip on Tuesday, February 20th against Bethune Cookman. The game will begin at 6 pm and it can be streamed on the CatEYE Network.
