Miami, FL –ย Following a two-month saga between Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat, a blockbuster trade has been made on the eve of the February 6 deadline.
In what was originally a four-team deal, The Heat traded Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for Kyle Anderson, Andrew Wiggins, and their protected 2025 first-round pick. The Heat briefly reunited with P.J. Tucker, receiving him from the Utah Jazz, who got Dennis Schroder from Detroit. The Detroit Pistons landed Lindy Waters III from Golden State and Josh Richardson from Miami.
Then there was a fifth team involved when the Heat acquired Davion Mitchell from the Toronto Raptors, who got P.J. Tucker, a 2026 second-round pick, and cash considerations in return.
Jimmy Butler accolades with the Heat
Jimmy Butler had a legendary career with the Heat, no doubt. We may even see his #22 in the rafters of the Kaseya Center one day.
Since joining the Heat in the summer of 2019, he reached the NBA All-Star game twice in 2020 and 2022. He was part of the All-NBA Second Team in 2023 and the All-NBA Third Team in 2020 and 2021. Butler was part of the NBA All-Defensive Second Team in 2021 and also led the league in steals that season.
He led the Heat to three Eastern Conference Finals (2020, 2022 & 2023), and two NBA Finals (2020 & 2023). The 2022-23 Heat were the first No.8 seed in the NBA to reach the Finals since the New York Knicks in 1999. Unfortunately, he fell short of the ultimate prize, an NBA championship.
In his six seasons with Miami, he averaged 21 points a game, just behind LeBron James (26.9) and Dwyane Wade (22.7). He finished in a three-way tie with Sherman Douglas and LeBron James for steals per game at 1.7. Jimmy Butler has the most triple-doubles in Heat franchise history with 13.

A pair of stars have arrived in Miami
Andrew Wiggins is the headliner of what the Heat got in return and is already being seen as the third star of the team alongside Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro. The 2014 first-overall pick has several accolades himself. Wiggins won a title with the Warriors in 2022, which was also the year of his sole All-Star appearance. He won the NBA Rookie of the Year and was a part of the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2015.
Wiggins is currently averaging 17.6 PPG, 4.6 RPG, and 2.5 APG. He now joins Kevin Love as the only players on the Heat roster who have won a championship.

The second most important trade chip the Heat got in return is Davion Mitchell. The 2021 9th overall pick has an NCAA title to his name with Baylor. He showed some promise with the Sacramento Kings in his rookie season but then saw his playing time diminish over the next two seasons before getting traded to the Raptors. Mitchell is averaging 6.3 PPG, 1.9 RPG, and 4.6 APG this season.
He might not come off the bench and play plenty of minutes every night but expect him to cover both guard spots and play key perimeter defense.

Butler gets his extension
After previously having no interest in signing an extension with Golden State, Jimmy Butler signed a 2-year $121 million deal that’ll keep him in the Bay Area through the 2026-27 season.
Jimmy Butler will already make his anticipated visit to South Beach as the Warriors are set to play in Miami on March 25th. Tickets to the game have already skyrocketed in price following the trade, selling as low as $125 on SeatGeek.
