Per Alfre Alvarez of Con Las Bases Llenas, the New York Yankees have informed catcher J.C. Escarra that he will make the 26-man roster.
Escarra, who spent four seasons at FIU had a career slashline of .276/.358/.432 with 20 home runs and 109 RBI.
Following his collegiate career, Escarra would go on to be selected in the 15th round of the 2017 MLB Draft by the Baltimore Orioles.
After being released by the Orioles, Escarra looked for a job, eventually becoming an Uber driver. On January 11, 2024, the New York Yankees gave the former Panther a minor league deal.
Between AA and AAA, Escarra slashed .261/.355/.434/.789 with 12 home runs, 64 RBI, and a 119 wRC+.
This spring, the Yankees gave Escarra an invite to big league camp, and slashed .333/.375/.578/.953 with three home runs, seven RBIs, and a 145 wRC+. The FIU alum is now set to back Austin Wells, but also DH for the Yankees.
He will be in Miami to take on the Marlins at loanDepot park on Tuesday, March 25 at 1:10 pm. This will be a homecoming for Escarra as he is a Hialeah native.
