MIAMI, FL – The Panthers needed a big performance from their pitching staff on Saturday, and they certainly got it, limiting the ranked Western Kentucky Hilltoppers to only four runs, more than enough as FIU took a crucial CUSA series, defeating them by a final score of 6-4.
Taking the mound was Logan Runde, who gave FIU four innings of work, allowing two runs on five hits, walking one, and striking out three. He was credited with the win for his performance.
FIU’s bullpen consisted of Jarek Woodward, Kevin Martin, and Juan Viallarreal. They struck out four batters between all three, allowing two runs on five hits. Villarreal earned the save.
Second baseman Alex Ulloa hit his sixth home run of the season. It marks the first time this season that Ulloa has hit a home run in back-to-back games. He finished the day going two-for-four with three RBIs.
The following Panthers drove in a run in today’s game: Austin Dearing, Andrew Ildefonso, and Cole Cleveland.
With the win, the Panthers move to 25-18. For FIU, this was a crucial CUSA series for them to take as they move to 8-8 in conference play. The Panthers will go for the series sweep on Sunday at noon. Owen Puk will take the mound.
