There’s not much to take away from the second game of the weekend series for FIU Baseball except they couldn’t match Iowa’s bats as they were manhandled by a score of 15-2.
15 runs off of 15 hits show how efficient the Hawkeyes were today, but the scarier stat in these kinds of blowouts is that they still left six runners on base.
They made this game near-impossible for FIU to win early on as they racked up eight runs in the first inning, including five runs scored off of a pair of home runs.
In every single inning leading up to the fifth, Iowa would add at least one more run to limit the comeback Cats even more.
On the other side, FIU’s bats were stagnant, registering only hour hits. Their only runs came in the sixth inning off a Hector Candelas double, which brought home both Ryne Guida and Andre Martinez.
Joel Pineiro started the game off for FIU at the mound and proceeded to give up eight earned runs from seven hits, and promptly didn’t return for the second inning. He’s officially credited with the loss.
With a 26-27 overall record, FIU’s chances of a regular season record over .500 are gone, but they’ll still look to win the rubber match tomorrow at 1pm.
