MIAMI, FL – Despite what would have been a massive setback to the series after a tough loss in extra innings, the FIU Panthers looked to answer in the Saturday matchup, ultimately earning a decisive 6-3 win.
The big piece for the Panthers today? None other than Ryne Guida put on an absolute clinic at bat with three hits, three RBIs, two doubles, and no strikeouts.
In addition to his performance, Samuel Fischer had contact with the ball in the first inning, netting them the lead to begin with.
The third inning proved to be Wofford’s only chance at success on offense, with three runs scored in that inning along to take the lead, only for FIU to respond with an RBI double by Guida to notch things up again.
After this, FIU’s pitchers shut down the Terriers. After a so-so performance by Joel Pineiro with three runs given up, both Jackson Ritchey and Zac Lampton combined for five strikeouts and only three hits, with no earned runs.
Meanwhile, Nick Pitelli continued his recent success with a two-run homer to right field in the fourth inning, netting them a lead that they didn’t give up.
After a few quiet innings for both squads, Guida broke through once more with another RBI double, bringing in Armando Becerra, adding in an insurance run, and helping to secure a 6-3 win.
With the win, the Panthers improved their record to 19-16 and will complete the rubber match tomorrow at noon. upcoming for FIU following this series will be a midweek matchup at home against FAU this Tuesday at 6pm.
