MIAMI, FL – The FIU Men’s Basketball squad released their non-conference schedule this Tuesday for the upcoming 2023 season.

With the Conference USA and in-season tournament schedules being released over the summer, the Panthers now have their entire season mapped out.

FIU, led by sixth-year head coach Jeremy Ballard, will open their season on Monday, November 6th against the UCF Knights in Orlando.

The Panthers will then come home to Miami on November 9th for their home opener against the Tarleton State Texans, from Stephensville, Texas.

Here are some other highlights from the Panthers’ 30-game slate:

In-State Rivals

After their opening night clash with UCF, FIU will go on to play five schools from the state of Florida. They’ll go across town to play the Miami Hurricanes on November 13th at the Watsco Center for the first time since December 2008.

They’ll travel up I-95 to face their former C-USA rivals, the Florida Atlantic Owls, on December 13th. Both FAU and Miami made it to the Final Four in Houston last April, falling short against San Jose State and UConn, respectively.

FIU will also have home games against Florida Gulf Coast, Trinity College of Florida, and Stetson on Nov. 29, Dec. 16, and Dec. 19 respectively.

In-Season Tourney

The Panthers will fly to the Caribbean to participate in the Cayman Islands Classic on November 19th. They’re guaranteed at least two games in the eight-team double-elimination bracket, beginning with an opening-round tilt against Akron.

Oakland, Drake, Loyola Marymount, Stephen F. Austin, Marshall, and Utah State are also in the tournament. Kansas State and LSU were the respective winners and runners-up in last year’s edition of the tourney.

Conference Opponents

FIU will begin their 16-game conference slate on January 6th on the road against new C-USA member Jacksonville State.

They also have home-and-home matchups against the other new C-USA members in Liberty, New Mexico State, and Sam Houston State.

The season will conclude in Las Cruces against the Aggies on March 9th.

Assuming FIU makes it to the Conference-USA Championships, that tournament will begin on March 12th and continue until March 16th at the Propst Arena in Huntsville, Alabama.
