FIU Women’s Soccer continues to prove themselves as the best team in Conference USA as they roll past Sam Houston State by a score of 3-1, winning their seventh-straight match – five of which against CUSA opponents.

Part of their success so far this season is thanks to Noemi Paquin – FIU’s senior forward from Montreal. Already the leading goal-scorer for the Panthers, she notched two more today.

The first came in the fifth minute, as she capitalized off a missed shot that went her way, nailing the ball to the top right post.

Goal #2 came over 30 minutes later as she and Arianna Sparrow broke through the defense and found an empty spot on the left side of the net, giving FIU a 2-0 lead they took into halftime.

The Panthers’ defense has been exemplary through this stretch. In this matchup specifically, they only gave up five shots and only a single one on goal. Unfortunately, that solo shot was cashed in during the 76th minute.

That was the first goal given up in a match for FIU since mid-September. Despite the close 2-1 contest, the Panthers didn’t let up on offense and answered five minutes later with a left-side snipe by Brealyn Viamille.

FIU now moves to a 10-3 record, already the most wins in a season since 2011. They are also 5-0 in conference play, the most since 2013. They stand alone in first place in CUSA, with Liberty right behind them.

The Panthers will finish this road trip in North Georgia as they take on the Kennesaw State Owls on Sunday, October 20th at noon. They’ll finish the regular season with two straight home matches at Leyva Family Field.
