MIAMI, FL – After a tough loss to USF in Tampa, Kyle Russell and his team were able to bounce back on Sunday night, defeating Tulsa by a final score of 3-1.
It was a low-scoring affair in the first half of action with only three shots by FIU. In the sixth minute of action, Mathys Lefebvre knocked in the first goal of the night for the Panthers – his first of the season.
The second half saw a lot more action from both teams with Tulsa putting up seven shots against the Panthers’ three. The big difference was that FIU ended up coming on top.
Tulsa knocked in the equalizer in the 58th minute thanks to Ander Bengoetxea who scored his second goal of the season.
It was late in the game that the FIU offense sparked. In the 83rd minute of play, David Houja scored his first goal of the season followed by Ron Arie in the 85th minute. That was Arie’s second goal of the season which put FIU up 3-1.
With the win, FIU moves up to 3-4-2 on the season and 1-1 in conference play while Tulsa now has a 1-7-1 record, still looking for their first AAC win. The Panthers will host the UAB Blazers on Saturday, October 5th at 7:00 pm.
