Today’s contest between FIU Women’s Soccer and the Jacksonville Dolphins was a wash as the Panthers cruised to a 3-0 shoutout – their second-straight win and third in their last four matches.
FIU made a statement early on. A couple of minutes after a save by goalkeeper Valery Restrepo, a rush to the net paid off as Ashly Martinez landed a shot in the eighth minute that found the back of the net for her first goal as a Panther.
Less than three minutes later, FIU doubled down as Montelene Dymond landed her second goal in as many games to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead 10 minutes in.
This early attack on Jacksonville’s net wasn’t finished, as the 18th minute brought about one more goal, as Nikole Solis punched in her third goal this season to give FIU a demanding 3-0 lead.
There’s not much to write home for the rest of the match as FIU played exemplary defense with Restrepo being credited for four saves on the day.
FIU spent an absurd amount of time on Jacksonville’s side of the field, racking up 19 shots and four corner kicks.
The Panthers now stand with a 3-1 record, and continue their tour of Florida with a matchup in DeLand this Thursday at 7pm against the Stetson Hatters.
