MIAMI, FL – Following a 1-1 tie against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, the FIU Women’s soccer team looked to bounce back against the 11-1 Liberty Flames, the team with the best overall record in C-USA.
Before the matchup, the Flames suffered their first loss of the season against the New Mexico State Aggies, who currently are in first place in the conference with a 4-0 record against conference opponents.
Although the Panthers had multiple shot opportunities, the game ended in a 0-0 draw, the first of the season for the Flames and the third for the Panthers, but their second against a conference opponent.
FIU had a multitude of opportunities to put the ball into the net, led by Noemi Paquin’s six shots on the night along with two from Nikole Solis.
Although the Panthers were getting shots up, none of them fell through as Flames goalie Ainsley Leja ended her night with two saves.
Although FIU ended the night with 11 total shots, only two of them were shots on goal, so a lot of off-target shots were the story of the match.
As for the Flames, they ended the night with 12 shots, with seven of them being shots on goals. Per usual, Panthers goalie Ithasia Vinoly had another great nice saving seven shots.
With tonight’s tie, the Panthers go to 7-3-3 and are 2-0-1 in the conference. FIU is back at it on Thursday, October 12th against the first-place Aggies. The game will get going at 9pm from La Cruces.
