Miami, FL – You can dust off those old Vice jerseys from the shelves, Miami Heat fans. It can’t get any more Miami than for the Heat to surprise their fanbase and the whole NBA with the announcement that their signature Vice jerseys are back in business on the same night as the Jimmy Butler reunion after finishing serving his seven-game suspension.

Back by popular demand, fans had expressed their wishes on X over the years to see the Miami Heat play with the uniform in action once again. The Heat listened and sure did have a surprise in store for the 2nd half of the season after purposely wearing the Heat Culture jerseys earlier during the season.

Vice Uniform History

The Miami Heat kicked off their successful Vice campaign during the middle of the 2017-18 season by releasing the original white uniform. They followed it in the 2018-19 season with black “Vice Night” uniforms. In 2019-20, they released the blue gale “ViceWave” jerseys and then finished the Vice era with the gradient “ViceVersa” look during the 2020-21 season.

Although the Vice jerseys had been retired for nearly 4 years, its success couldn’t be unmatched. Since its 2018 debut, over half of the 440,000 jerseys the Heat sold, had a Vice logo on it. They sold 230,000 jerseys during that time, accounting for $25 million in revenue. It’s no surprise that the Vice brand campaign has been the most successful one by far ever since the NBA’s campaign with Nike.

The Heat sold more than $40 million worth of Vice merch as well, which has been roughly 40% of its retail revenue since 2018. Even their Vice license plates have been the 2nd highest in Florida for specialty license plates.

Regarding the Heat’s return to their familiar look, executive vice president and chief marketing officer Michael McCullough said,

“What we have learned and what the benefit of creating Vice has really been for us is it has created almost a secondary identity for the Miami Heat that has become part of our brand. We started off as red, black and white, and we’re the toughest, meanest, nastiest, etc. etc. We are still all of those things when we wear the Vice uniform. However, our presentation gets to change, our look gets to chance, the whole vibe around the team and the franchise gets to change. That’s how much this uniform has really meant to us, it’s enabled us to kind of widen the scope of our identity and our brand without ever changing who we are.”

Heat Vice Uniform Schedule

The Heat will wear their white Vice uniforms for 20 games this season. These jerseys will come in place of their classic Association jersey. The only difference between this one and the original is that it has the Robinhood patch on the upper left-hand corner.

For home games Vice nights, the team will return to their pastel Vice court.

McCullough acknowledged how the Vice uniform comeback was a two-year work in progress, saying

“We’ve been working with Nike and the NBA to bring this uniform back because it’s basically a bit of a unicorn. This uniform was in and out of the marketplace so quickly that if you didn’t get your hands on it, you didn’t get it.”

Speaking of scheduling, Heat Vice Jerseys could not have come at a more turmoil time as Jimmy Butler was slated for a Heat reunion, returning from his seven-game suspension against the Denver Nuggets at the Kaseya Center. He scored 18 points in 33 minutes.
