Orlando finished Cincinnati before breaking a sweat | May 2nd, 2021

Orlando finished Cincinnati

Orlando, FL – Three games into the season is all it took for the Lions to win their first match, yet they remain unbeaten. After drawing their first two matches of the season against Atlanta and Kansas City respectively, Orlando finished Cincinnati just one minute into their May 1st matchup.

The 2020 season served as the Lions’ first-ever successful campaign. They dominated the “MLS Is Back Tournament”, which took place in Orlando, finishing as the tournament runners-up. The momentum followed them into the return of the regular season, seeing Orlando make their 1st ever playoff run. They fell in the Eastern Conference semi-final to the New England Revolution.

Continued Momentum

The success seems to have followed the Lions into 2021. Still unbeaten, Orlando hopes to improve on last season’s success and qualify for their first-ever MLS Cup Final. Tonight’s 3-0 beating of Cincinnati could be a look into how the season will turn out. Orlando fans could have a lot to look forward to.

The boys looked focused, coming out of the gates like a prime Mike Tyson, knocking fools out in round one. Orlando forward, Tesho Akindele capitalized off a misplaced backfield pass from a Cincinnati defender, scoring the Lions’ fastest ever goal at only 31 seconds into the match! The fastest goal club record was previously held by Chris Mueller, scoring in 63 seconds against the San Jose Sharks in 2018.

19 minutes later, OCSC captain, Nani scored his 20th regular-season goal for the club, assisted by former One-Punch Man, Chris Mueller. That’s a goal in back-to-back matches for the Cap’n, who’s a big reason for the club’s turnaround in recent seasons.

By this point, the game was all but put away. However, adding insult to injury for Cincinnati, the Lions’ Júnior Urso hit the final nail in the coffin. He knocked in Orlando’s third goal after a hodgepodge in the box.

What’s Next?

Orlando finds itself third in the standings after the third matchday. Next up, they face the second place, New York City FC in a rematch of last season’s MLS Cup 1st-round playoff match.
