Inter Miami Draws 2-2 With A Tough Atlanta United In Tata’s Return

NU Stadium- Inter Miami played a tough Atlanta United squad to a 2-2 draw Saturday night in Tata Martino’s return to Miami. Casemiro and Luis Suárez scored for the Herons, while Miguel Almirón and Breel Embolo found the net for Atlanta.

Starting XI

Noah Allen’s surprise loan to the Chicago Fire left a hole at left-back for Inter Miami, and an injured Sergio Reguilón couldn’t step in as the natural replacement. Guillermo Hoyos slotted in Fricio Caicedo, who is better suited to play center back. Dayne St. Clair started in goal, with Ian Fray, Maximiliano Falcón, Casemiro, and Fricio Caicedo forming the backline. Rodrigo De Paul, Telasco Segovia, and Yannick Bright manned the midfield. Legends Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez formed the frontline alongside Germán Berterame.

Game Action

Inter Miami took the lead on Casemiro’s twisting header off a Lionel Messi corner kick in the 32nd minute. It was the second consecutive week that the Brazilian scored a header for Miami.

Miguel Almiron answered quickly for Atlanta, tying the match just three minutes later.

Just before halftime, “El Pistolero” Luis Suárez produced a moment of brilliance, beating two defenders with a deft first touch before calmly finishing off a pass from Telasco Segovia.

Dayne St. Clair blocked a Miguel Almiron penalty kick in the 73rd minute, but Breel Embolo made his attempt count in the 87th minute to settle the final 2-2 scoreline.

The Waiting Game

The Herons made several moves before the Secondary Transfer Window closed on September 2nd. Homegrown defender Noah Allen was loaned to the Chicago Fire, with a $3 million purchase option at the conclusion of the loan.

David Ruiz, another Homegrown player, was also loaned to the New York Red Bulls, with a purchase option included in the deal.

With two players heading out, Inter Miami brought in reinforcements, announcing the signing of Brazilian winger Riquelme Fillipi.

Paraguayan midfielder Matías Galarza was also announced by the Herons, adding another new midfield option to the squad.

Along with their two new additions, the Herons are awaiting the arrival of their new head coach, Cristian “Kily” González, who will officially take the reins once he receives his work permit.

 

For now, Inter Miami and the fans can only wait to see what these new additions will provide for the team. Fillipi is a young, exciting prospect, and Galarza is a player who shined for his national team at the FIFA 2026 World Cup. “Kily” Gonzalez is a welcome change as coach for Guillermo Hoyos, who seemed to be over his head.
