NU Stadium- The Herons are finally home. After six years in Fort Lauderdale, Inter Miami CF played its first-ever MLS match at NU Stadium in Miami against Austin FC. The stunning venue marks the club’s long-awaited permanent home, fulfilling the vision that David Beckham and the Mas brothers set out to achieve—bringing both a team and a stadium to the heart of the city.

This marks just the first phase of the ambitious Miami Freedom Park project, where hotels, restaurants, bars, and open green spaces are set to rise—transforming the area into a must-visit destination. Inter Miami CF is helping usher in a new era of sports venues, one designed to deliver a world-class fan experience in Miami. For the club and its supporters, the dream is quickly becoming a reality

Austin Quick On The Draw

Austin FC came ready for their showdown with Inter Miami Saturday night, with the Texas team getting on the scoreboard quickly via Guilherme Biro’s header six minutes into the match. Biro became the first player to score a goal at NU Stadium.

The GOAT, Lionel Messi, the man everyone came to see, tied the game just four minutes later with a spectacular header past Brad Stuver. Ian Fray chipped a lovely ball to the center of the box, and Messi beat everyone to the spot. He became the first Inter Miami CF player to score a goal at NU Stadium.

Jayden Nelson restored the lead for Austin in the fifty-third minute, finishing off a counterattack sparked by a botched Inter Miami corner kick.

The draw was sealed in the eighty-second minute, when another legend, Luis Suárez, rifled a left-footed strike into the Austin net, igniting the celebrations at NU Stadium.

The 2–2 result ensured Austin FC could not spoil Miami’s celebration, giving the home crowd another reason to revel into the night.

Player & Game Takeaways

Inter Miami’s draw at home exposed several players enduring difficult spells on the pitch while also highlighting others performing at a high level.

Rodrigo De Paul has endured a difficult start to the 2026 campaign. His performances have been inconsistent, and “El Motorcito’s” production in midfield has fallen short of what is expected from a Designated Player.

Beyond a tendency for errant passes that have led to dangerous counterattacks, his defensive work rate has not consistently met the standard of a true difference-maker. As a result, his overall impact on the match has been limited during this early stretch of the season.

Gonzalo Luján, on the other hand, has been a positive for Inter Miami. He stepped in for the injured Maximiliano Falcón and delivered an impressive performance despite limited prior playing time.

On Saturday night, Luján replaced an erratic Ian Fray and quickly settled in at right back. His recent performances have strengthened his case for increased minutes, and the right back position could be where he carves out a larger role.

Yannick Bright entered the 2026 season poised for a breakout campaign in Inter Miami’s midfield. The talented midfielder has shown strong defensive ability and solid technical skills, yet he has struggled to secure a consistent role.

Instead, Bright has lost ground to David Ayala and has found himself on the bench. At this stage of his tenure, he was expected to be a regular starter and key contributor. His limited role so far has been a disappointing development for both the player and the club.

Maximiliano Falcón returned from injury against Austin FC and delivered a solid performance. The center back brings leadership and a commanding presence to Inter Miami’s back line, with his energy, effort, and commitment never in question.

His performances this season have been consistently high-level, reinforcing his importance to the team’s defensive stability.

The Herons need to become as synchronized as possible—and quickly. Inter Miami cannot afford to invest heavily in its roster without receiving consistent production from its key players.
